Model 1873 Third Model lever action rifle manufactured by Winchester in 1888. Features include an all blue finish, case colored hammer and lever, 24" octagonal barrel, full length magazine tube, third model dust cover, brass flip up front sight, standard rear sight, unmarked rear tang sight, smooth walnut buttstock and foreand, and a crescent buttplate. Top barrel flat is marked with stampings stipulating the manufacturer information, with the caliber "38 W.C.F." at the rear towards the breech. CONDITION: Receiver and barrel retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, showing some wear and thinning, with areas of high edge wear as well as an area of wear on the bottom of the receiver around the forend and right side of ejection port which have turned a gray patina. Very bright bore, exhibiting some small scattered areas of cleaned oxidation and retaining good rifling throughout. Walnut stock and forend show a few indentations and some scattered handling marks, but are otherwise fine and serviceable. A nice original example of an over 100 year old Winchester lever action rifle. MLW
