With only limited production capabilities at Samuel Colt's factories, numerous European makers began legally and illegally manufacturing revolvers using Colt's patents. Upon inspection at the Liege proofhouse, a royalty was charged and the revolver marked, in this case on the top barrel flat with "COLT PATENT", in addition to the standard Belgian proofs. It is fitted with a 7 - 1/2" .36 caliber blued octagon barrel with brass pin front sight, 6 shot percussion cylinder with "N. GILON" maker mark on face and mounted ranger scene, case hardened frame and loading lever, brass grip straps with round trigger guard, and smooth walnut grips. CONDITION: Very good retaining traces of thinned original finish, especially in protected areas such as the bottom of the barrel, with balance taking on a mottled gray/brown patina. Grips have finish added, which in spots is starting to crackle, with additional scattered impressions. Good shootable bore with strong rifling. Good mechanics. Numbers matching on barrel, frame and trigger guard. BAS
