This interesting Civil War era revolver has all the characteristics of a 2nd Model Whitney Pocket, however no makers name is found. The barrel is void of address and cylinder scene, leading to the believe it is a factory engraved example. Light scroll engraving is found on approximately 50-60% of the revolver's surface including the barrel top flat where an address is typically found and on the cylinder rather than the usual roll die scene. Serial number 9409 is found on the loading lever, on the frame behind the trigger bow, inside the trigger bow, back of cylinder, and inside both grip panels. The letters "DX" accompany serial numbers. 3 - 1/2" octagon barrel. Chambered in .31 caliber percussion. 2-piece varnished walnut grips. CONDITION: Fine with traces of original blue on the barrel and cylinder. Frame is a pleasing dove grey patina. Traces of original silver on trigger bow. Grips are excellent showing modest wear. Bore is good showing modest abrasion. Interesting revolver that deserves further research. MKS
