Several Hewsons are recorded in London, with cumulative working dates between 1801 and 1822. Round barrel with flat sighting rib on top utilizing a diminutive brass blade front sight and V notch rear sight mounted to tang. Sighting rib signed "HEWSON LONDON". Flint lock with roller bearing frizzen, bridled pan, tailed pan cover, and swan neck cock. Stalking safety with articulation tab broken off. Horn tipped ramrod, likely the original, retained by a one piece reinforced mouth and ferrule with floral motifs. Trigger guard with pineapple finial and stand of arms engraved. Bag grip with wraparound checkering. CONDITION: Metal with some old inactive oxidation with about half dove grey metal still showing. Lock en suite. Stocks are good with bumps and bruises throughout, and have been taken down slightly and revarnished, which has filled in checkering in several places. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with strong rifling. EW
