Lot consists of 2 French made swords on which U.S. Civil War infantry and cavalry officer swords were patterned. Possibly imported for use here, but without U.S. motifs. (A) Foot officer. Brass hilt with cast and chased floral motifs on the pommel and open work guard. Gray sharkskin grip with wire binding. Blade with unstopped wide fuller and narrow secondary fuller with narrow false edge. French inspection marks near guard and Klingenthal inscribed flat back edge. Blade etched with floral scrolls, etc. Brass mounted leather scabbard with floral band rings and drag with floral scrolls on obverse. CONDITION: Very good. Matching hilt and scabbard mounts polished but toning. Grip excellent. Blade etching light but visible with some thin gray spots. Good edge and point. Scabbard very good. Minor dings to mounts. Very pretty engraving to drag. (B) Cavalry saber. Heavily cast and chased floral details to hilt with gray sharkskin grip and binding wire in place. Blade with unstopped primary and narrow secondary fullers with flat back and partially rubbed French markings. CONDITION: Very good. Blade not etched, good edge and point. Scattered gray areas.
