Manufactured 1939 as per Colt factory letter. Thick half moon front sight, square notch flat top rear sight. Right side of slide with "COLT // SUPER .38 / AUTOMATIC // (Rampant Colt)". Left side of slide with single block 2-line patent and address information. Checkered small parts, long 1911A1 grip safety, arched knurled mainspring housing. Full checkered walnut grips. Two tone magazine. Accompanied by Colt factory letter identifying gun as shipped January 28th, 1939 to California Hardware Company, Los Angeles, California with blue finish and unlisted stocks, in a shipment of 2. Schwartz safety installed, but there is no mention of it in the letter. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining the vast majority of the Colt blue finish with some scattered marks from handling and storage, mostly visible on front half of slide. One particularly noticeable strike through the Colt logo on right side of slide. Some very light patina visible on mainspring housing and top of slide. Grips are very good with worn checkering but no cracks or chips. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is excellent with crisp rifling. A nice example of a rare gun. EW
