First year of production, 1931. Early pre-floating chamber solid barrel, tall half-moon front sight, adjustable square notch rear sight. Appropriate Colt Ace rollmarks, with additional "SUI 3" stamped on right side of dust cover (State University Iowa No. 3). Recoil assembly with appropriate 8 stacked shock buffs. 2 tone magazine with loading assist following contour of magazine. Checkered spurred hammer, thick tab safety, slide release sans mill cut, long grip safety, short trigger, knurled arched mainspring housing without lanyard loop, and fully checkered walnut grips. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter confirming shipment to the US War Department in Iowa City as part of a shipment of 15 on September 23rd, 1931, and an additional note taped on that indicates use by Iowa State ROTC and pictured in Clawson. CONDITION: Very good to excellent, retaining the vast majority of the Colt factory bluing with some silvering to reciprocating areas and muzzle, commensurate with use in a holster. Some minor handling marks throughout, including takedown mark. Grip straps have some patina from hand rubbing, grips are very good with some hand rubbing. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is excellent with strong rifling. A nice example and well documented. EW
