Colt Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter revolver. First generation black powder frame gun made 1883. Top of the barrel is marked COLT's PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER", etched panel marked on the left side of the barrel. Patent dates on the left side of the frame. Left top of the trigger guard is marked "44.C.F" Matching serials on the frame, grip strap and butt. Round barrel was cut down to 5". Blade front sight and frame u-notch rear. Factory nickel finish has worn in areas to bare metal, and formed a brown patina. Factory black hard rubber grips. Accompanied by a factory letter indicating shipment as a nickel .44-40 gun (no barrel length listed) sent to J.P. Moores Sons, New York, New York, in a shipment of 20 sent July 16th, 1883. CONDITION: Metal retains 50% of its original finish with areas of bare metal and brown patina. Barrel etching may have been touched up at some point. Grips are solid, with light wear. Bore is frosted with good overall rifling. Tight hammer and cylinder. Good timing and lock up. Mechanically fine. JWA
