Colt Single Action Army revolver. First generation black powder frame gun made 1883. Top of the barrel is marked "COLT's PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". Left side of the barrel retains no Frontier Six Shooter markings. Patent dates on the left side of the frame. Left top of the trigger guard is marked "44.C.F" Matching serials on the frame, grip strap and butt. Round barrel with blade front sight and frame u-notch rear. Factory finish has worn to a heavy brown patina. Factory hard rubber grips. Accompanied by a factory letter indicating shipment as a blue .44-40 5 - 1/2" gun sent to C. Hummel and Son, San Antonio, Texas, in a shipment of 10 sent January 31st, 1883. CONDITION: Metal retains little to none of its original finish with most areas having formed a heavy brown patina. Some light pitting on the left side of the barrel/frame. Checkering and embellishments on the grips have worn down, but are solid with no cracks or chips. Bore is frosted, with good overall rifling. Tight hammer and cylinder. Lockup and timing seem to be fine. Mechanically fine. JWA
