Model 1878 double action revolver manufactured by Colt in 1886. Top of barrel is stamped "COLT'S PT.FA. CO HARTFORD CT.U.S.A.DEPOT 14. PALL MALL LONDON". Left side of trigger guard bow is stamped ".476 CAL". English proofs are present on the bottom of the barrel towards the breech as well as on the cylinder. Features include a high polish blue finish, 5 - 1/2" barrel, blade front sight, notched rear sight, lanyard loop on butt, and 2-piece Colt hard rubber grips. Matching numbers are found on the frame and cylinder. "22" is present on the loading gate and grips do not match. Factory letter indicates shipment as a blue 5 - 1/2" .476 Eley to Colt's Patent Firearms Co., London Agency, 14 Pall Mall, London, England, in a shipment of 100 dated February 8th, 1886. CONDITION: Metal components retain good amounts of their original high polish factory blue finish, exhibiting wear and handling marks all around that show through to a pleasant brown patina. Fire blued components show varying degrees of wear, with majority retaining traces of their original fire bluing. Bore is bright, exhibiting areas of oxidation and retaining well defined lands and grooves throughout. Grips show smoothing as well as a few scattered impressions and handling marks overall, with the right grip panel bearing a chip at the top and a small hole near the bottom of the panel. A rare and seldom encountered Colt Model 1878 revolver with a London Pall Mall address. MLW
