This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/18/2021
Standard configuration P.08 pistol manufactured by Simson & Co Suhl in 1934. Major metal components exhibit a rust blue finish, with smaller components being strawed and nitre blued. Chamber area is appropriately blank, with the toggle bearing Simson's "S" code in the center. Simson eagle over "6" acceptance proofs are present on most small and large components, with an eagle over "RC" proof present on the barrel. Weimer period eagle proof is visible on the right side of the receiver, breechblock, and barrel. All numbers are matching and include the frame, locking bolt, trigger, sideplate, hold-open latch, safety lever, barrel, receiver, trigger bar, extractor, breechblock, toggle links, grips, and magazine. Accompanying this already seldom encountered Luger variation, is an AKAH manufactured leather holster containing a Simson eagle over "6" proofed loading tool and matching secondary magazine. Interior of holster flap bears a handwritten "SLATINGTON" with some illegible handwriting towards the top. Holster appears to have been numbered to match at a later date. This example is listed on page 101 of "Simson Lugers" by Edward B. Tinker and Graham K. Johnson. CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining the vast majority of its arsenal rust blue finish, exhibiting some areas of light wear and handling marks. Grip straps show some moderate thinning that shows through to patina. Barrel shows some freckling. Strawed components show areas of wear and some age-related discoloration. Magazine catch spring has been strawed. Bright bore, exhibiting some light pitting and good rifling throughout. 2-piece checkered walnut grips exhibit some light smoothing, as well as a few nicks to the diamonds. Holster is very good, showing some light age-related cracking and some minor storage and handling marks. Loading tool is in the white, exhibiting a grey patina. Being known as the last Simson & Co. Lugers produced before the Nazi party's control, the "S" Code P.08s are an extremely sought-after Luger variation, with only an estimated 1,000 ever being produced. These scarce Lugers are seldom offered, making for an excellent opportunity for the advanced Luger collector to add this example to their ensemble. MLW
