Manufactured 1942. Stevens adjustable rear sight, with Ace tall serrated ramp sight. Left side two two line 1 block patent information with pony at rear, right side with correct "COLT // SERVICE / MODEL // ACE (in diamond) // .22 // LONG / RIFLE" marking. Right side of frame with serial number and appropriate SM prefix. Left side of trigger guard with "P" and Colt "VP" proofs. Inspector mark "W.B." in lozenge for Broberg. Checkered spurred hammer, slide release, safety. Long 1911A1 grip safety, arched checkered mainspring housing. 2 tone magazine with straight down loading assist. Housed in a contemporary kraft box with Colt drawing number ink stamped on top. Factory letter indicates shipment to Springfield Armory on February 17th, 1942, in a shipment of 53 as part of Factory Order #9966. CONDITION: Very good, retaining the vast majority of the original Colt blue finish with sharp legends. Scattered handling marks from use throughout, particularly visible on slide. Some lightly silvering on high edges toward muzzle consistent with holster use. Grip straps with patina from use. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with some frosting throughout. Box is fine as contemporary. A nice example of a wartime Service Model. EW
