C96 Red 9 semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Mauser for the German military to offset the shortage of P.08 pistols. Top of chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/ MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A/N". Left side of barrel extension bears a crown over "U" proof, with the right bearing a German military acceptance stamp. Rear of hammer is stamped with an intertwined "NS" signifying "New Safety". "9" is burnt into each grip. Features include a 5 - 1/2" barrel, adjust leaf rear sight, small ring hammer, and two-piece walnut grips. Matching numbers include the frame, barrel & barrel extension, bolt, bolt locking block, bolt stop, floorplate, and grips. Sear serial number is over stamped. Bolt charging handle bears an over stamped crown over "U" proof. Complete with a 1916 dated "GUSTAV REINHARDT/ BERLIN" marked leather holder with a handwritten "-C-/ H=H/ L13" marking on the rear and a reproduction stock. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear, scattered pitting, and some scattered areas of freckling. Nitre blued components are good as refinished, showing some pitting beneath the surface. Bolt charging handle shows pitting, having been polished and retaining traces of the serial number. Excellent bore, retaining good rifling throughout. Grips show some impressions and scattered handling marks. Leather holder is good, showing some handling marks and age related wear. Stock shows a few scattered impressions and handling marks. MLW
