Model 1878 double action revolver manufactured by Colt in 1884. Top of barrel is stamped "COLT'S PT.FA. CO HARTFORD CT.U.S.A.DEPOT 14. PALL MALL LONDON". Left side of trigger guard is stamped "455 CAL". English crown over "V" and crown over "GP" proofs are present around the cylinder and on the bottom of the barrel towards the breech. Major metal components are nickeled, with some smaller components being fire blued. Features include a 5 - 1/2" barrel, blade front sight, notched rear sight, and 2-piece checkered walnut grips. Matching numbers are found on the frame and cylinder. Grips number is written in felt pen, likely being matched at a later point in time. Assembly number on frame and loading gate are matching. This example is accompanied by a period English case lined in blue that was not originally made for this revolver and is snugly fit. Case contains 30 rounds of vintage .455 Eley ammunition, oiler, and cleaning rod. Lid retains a period Colt dealer card. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory nickel finish, showing some areas of wear and some small areas of flaking that show through to gray patina. Fire blued components retain much of their original finish, showing some wear overall with the exception of the frame screws, which retain trace to fair amounts of their original finish. Excellent bore, showing a small concentrated spot of oxidation and retaining good rifling throughout. Grips show scattered handling marks and impressions, but are otherwise sturdy and serviceable. English case shows scattered handling and storage marks, with a crack on the lid that does not effect operation. Interior of case shows average wear from age and use, with one wood block having come loose, which is present. A fine and attractive English cased Colt Model 1878 revolver with a Pall Mall address.
