World War II uniform for the 1st Samoan Marine Battalion. Their uniform consisted of a khaki lava-lava with scarlet border, a white t-shirt, an overseas cap with FSMB patch, and a scarlet sash. The uniform did not include any footwear, as these Marines used their bare feet. A 1st Samoan Marine Battalion patch rank chevrons were sewn to the right lower front of the lava-lava. This set features the scarlet piped khaki lava-lava and is constructed with green and khaki thread. The lava-lava bears the stamped marks "S. Natia 5272" and "Nepo Nepo 6282" on the inside lower corner. There is a 1st Samoan Marine Battalion patch that is hand stitched in a V pattern to the lower corner of the lava-lava. There is slight separation of the stitching and a hole in the top right corner of the patch. The top button is missing. The scarlet sash measures 85" x 4 - 3/8". The color has faded and one end exhibits fraying. This set includes a scarlet open top hat that matches the piping of the lava-lava. The color remains vibrant exhibiting no blemishes. The uniform is accompanied by a copy of US Marine Corps official specifications and general information for the uniform of the Samoan Marines from the USMC Quartermaster files and is dated July 29, 1941.
