Rare US Marine Corps Saddle blanket with leather EGA. The saddle blanket is constructed of canvas, with a leather trim, and complete with a leather EGA on either side. These saddle blankets were used by the Marine Corps during the early 1900s all the way through the 1930s and are often seen in photos of the Marine Mounted Detachment in La Paz Centro, Nicaragua during the 1920s as well as the Marines stationed in Peking, China in the 1930s. There are several holes and cracks in the leather trim but it remains supple. The canvas exhibits several stains and blemishes, as this saddle blanket was probably heavily used. The right EGA is worn and the latitude lines and continents are barely visible, while the left EGA remains bold. Despite the blemishes, this is a very nice example of a USMC saddle blanket. Equestrian related USMC items are quite rare and are seldom offered for sale making this a very desirable piece of USMC memorabilia. CONDITION: Good. JLD
