Model 1878 double action revolver manufactured by Colt in 1883. Top of barrel is stamped with Colt's one line address, with the left side not bearing a caliber reference. Left side of frame is stamped "100", possibly indicating a rack or inventory number. Major metal components are nickeled with smaller components being nitre blued. Features include a 7 - 1/2" barrel, standard blade front sight, notched rear sight, lanyard ring on butt, and 2-piece Colt black hard rubber grips. Interior of left grip panel is marked "FWE" above "319/23" followed by an upside down triangle formed from dots. Rear of left grip bears 3 intentional strike marks, with the right bearing 2. Grips are handwritten to match the frame. Cylinder appears to match, but numbers are partially illegible. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their period nickel finish, exhibiting some areas of flaking and some small losses on the frame, with the barrel showing areas of wear all around. Nitre blued components retain good amounts of their original finish, showing varying degrees of wear overall. Bright bore, showing some small concentrated areas of light pitting and retaining well defined lands and grooves throughout. Fine mechanical function. Grips show a few small impressions and scattered marks from use, but are otherwise sturdy and serviceable. MLW
