Circa 1882. This model being one of the highest grade guns made by W & C Scott is an English-built 10 gauge game gun with 30" browned Damascus steel barrels. Barrels are built with 2 - 7/8" chambers, extractors, smooth, tapered, concave game rib with a steel front sight bead. Chokes measure, left: Improved Modified and right: Cylinder. The top of the rib is engraved "W & C. SCOTT & SON PATENT TRIPLEX LEVER GRIP, The Premier Quality (with Castle Logo) 10 Gt CASTLE STREET REGENT CIRCUS LONDON, SILVER STEEL". Barrel flats show London black powder proofs. Bottoms of both barrels are stamped with the gun's serial number "31365". The case color hardened back action sidelock action with crystal indicators, has been decorated with scrolls, wild flowers, and 5 game birds on each lockplate. Bottom of action has matching scroll with an additional 3 game birds. The guns double triggers are protected by a trigger guard which has one more bird for a total of 14 wild fowl birds (ducks, geese, and even egrets) handsomely engraved on the gun. The trigger guard extends to a full-length bottom strap with matched scroll engraving, the gun's serial number "31365" and with the Castle logo. Fences have matched scroll engraving which continues over to the top lever. Right side of thumb piece on the top lever is uniquely engraved with leaves and a bit of stippling. The gun is auto safe and the safe slide is serrated. The word "SAFE" is engraved between the top lever and the safe slide. The European walnut stock with gold shield at top of wrist, semi-smooth checkered half pistol grip also is built with a dark horn pistol grip cap. The smoky figured buttstock is finished with a serrated horn buttplate. A matched checkered splinter forend with Deeley-type push tab release is engraved on the release lever matching the rest of the guns scroll. Remaining exterior iron metal is engraved with scroll and interior is case hardened. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain 87% browned Damascus with some usage and handling marks. Bores with signs of use, storage and are slightly loose. Action retains much of its case color and is sound. Triggers work well. Stock is very good with handling marks. Forend also with some light handling and storage marks. Checkering on both is good but semi-smooth. Nice period piece. CP
