Circa 1924. An exquisite English built side-by-side shotgun with 32" blacked steel barrels. This is the highest grade gun made by W & C Scott & Son. The barrels are built with fixed chokes, ejectors, and a raised machined, tapered, ventilated top rib with an off white front sight. Chokes measure .024" and .036" left and right respectively. The top of the right barrel is engraved "W. & C. SCOTT & SON, MAKERS". The Imperial Premier (Castle logo)" while the top of the left barrel is engraved "BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND". Foliate scroll engraving with an engraved pigeon is on the breech end of the rib. Foliate scroll is also found around the breeches of the barrels, with a triangle of scroll extending approximately 1" down the barrels. Barrel flats show Birmingham nitro proofs for 1 - 1/4 oz of shot and 2 - 3/4" chambers. Bottoms of both barrels are stamped with the gun's serial number "103196". The sidelock action features a single mechanical trigger with the left barrel firing first, Scott’s square cross bolt third fastener, side clips, and gas vented breeches. Water table is stamped with serial number and proofs. Case color hardened finish action shows full coverage of foliate scroll with 4 game birds on each lockplate. Bottom of action has matching scroll with an additional 4 game birds. For a total of 12 game birds on the action. "W & C SCOTT & SON" is engraved on each lockplate above the stock's bottom horns. Fences have foliate scroll engraving which continues over to the top lever. The gun was built without a safety. Trigger guard has matching scroll with gold inlay initials "EWF", serial number, and castle logo. Finely figured Italian walnut semi-pistol grip Monte Carlo buttstock measures 15 - 1/8" over a rubber recoil pad with spacer and features borderless Fleur-de-Lis checkering, drop points, and horn grip cap. Matching beavertail forend with Deeley-type release with engraving on the release lever matching the rest of the gun. Like new leather motor case has leather corners and brass hardware. Interior is lined in red cloth and key is in a leather pouch. CONDITION: Very fine, as partially re-conditioned. Barrels retain 87% black with usage and handling marks. Small divot left from removal of middle sight on rib. Action retains much of its case color. Wood benefited from a refresh, checkering has been re-cut, sliver of wood missing from right bottom horn under lockplate, very small crack behind right lockplate following the grain of the wood. Handling and storage marks on buttstock and forend. Bores are excellent. Ejectors are out of time. Trigger is crisp and action is tight. Case is excellent with wear on the leather straps. Very few Imperial Premiers were ever produced. A wonderful example of gunmakers art. (CP)
