S prefix serial number indicative of post-War manufacture. Half moon blade front sight integral with barrel, shrouded ejector rod, square notch rear sight in top strap. Right side of barrel with "38 S&W SPECIAL CTG", left side with "SMITH & WESSON". Frame with S&W trademark on right side of frame, and "MADE IN U.S.A." Checkered hammer and serrated trigger, both polished. 5 screw frame. S&W Magna grips with checkered panels and S&W medallions. Housed in a custom case with black felt wrapped wooden lining, French fitted for the reovlver and with 11 slots for cartridges. Inner top liner looks to be leather dyed black and stamped with a basketweave pattern surrounding "SMITH AND WESSON" with an elastic cloth pouch. CONDITION: Metal has been completely refinished and engraved with American scroll on a punch dot background, accented with florals on the topstrap. Straps have accented floral finials at tops of rear strap, butt, and bottom of front strap. Hammer and trigger are heavily polished with no evidence of original finish remaining. Mechanically fine, fair bore with pitting. Box has numerous bruises and some light chips, including high edge wear. EMW
