Manufactured 1851 as per serial number. Wilson notes that manufactured ran from approximately 1851 through 1861, with a government contract of 2000 issued on May 8th, 1851. Correct 7 - 1/2" octagon to round barrel with wedge having matching "454" on underside and "11454" on bottom of barrel assembly. Barrel has appropriate gain twist rifling. Correct latched ramrod with "454" on flat part of rammer and "B" left side of lug. Top flat of octagonal section of barrel marked "ADDRESS SAMl COLT NEW-YORK CITY". Correct acid washed scene on cylinder with squared cylinder stops, safety pins, and serial numbered 11454. Frame marked "COLT'S / PATENT / U.S." on left side, serial number on underside. Brass trigger guard with matching serial number and "B" proof on fore, and "C" proof on left side of trigger guard. R proof on inside of both front and backstraps, under grips. "B" proof at top of backstrap, with serial number on bottom of backstrap. One piece wooden grips. CONDITION: Very good. Metal is essential gunmetal throughout with no evidence of original finishes, and was gently cleaned at one point, leaving spotted oxidation and softening legends somewhat. Numerous minor dings and marks from handling throughout, including some marks around barrel wedge from improper disassembly. Screws are in various stages of being molested. Front sight has been recontoured. Cylinder scene has largely faded, leaving perhaps 10% still visible. Grips are possibly replaced as they are void of inspector cartouches. Mechanically fine, although safety pins are heavily worn, with very good rifling and some light spotted oxidation. This is a very presentable example of one of the quintessential American revolvers.
