Rare special order Winchester Model 70 target rifle in .35 Remington made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1941. Blued Winchester Proof Steel medium target weight 24" MH round rifled barrel with hooded ramp front sight and plugged rear dovetail. Barrel is factory drilled for target scope installation. Barrel is marked "35 REM" on left side and marked "41" on underside, which 1941 is the first year this caliber was cataloged in the Target Model. Gun features black matted action finish with correct drilled front receiver, clip slot, and undrilled rear bridge with factory installed Lyman 48 receiver sight. Solid bolt with serial number "33104" electropenciled on the bolt. Clover leaf pre-war style tang with pre-war 3-position wing safety. Wood on this gun is a further special order with instead of usual marksman stock this rifle was ordered with a walnut low comb checkered sporter style stock, and was also special ordered with Super Grade style sling swivels and Widow's Peak checkered steel buttplate. Gun has blued quick detachable floorplate with short follower, "R" marked extractor, and blued trigger guard. According to Rule, .35 Remington ranks in rarity as No. 1 in target models and No. 2 in standard models, in which this gun is a special ordered combination. CONDITION: 90% barrel blue with light corner wear. 90% action finish with light handling wear. Bolt handle is turning slightly plum. 90%+ floorplate blue with light handling marks (possibly reblued). Wood has been cleaned lightly with sharp checkering and some light handling marks. Two small gouges on bottom of stock between floorplate and stock bolt. Excellent bore and mechanics. Super rare gun.
