Winchester Model 70 rare carbine configuration in rare .38-55 caliber built by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1940. Blued 20" Winchester Proof Steel barrel with hooded ramp front sight and dovetail for 22 G rear adjustable sight (plugged) with two line address and caliber marking "38-55". Underside of barrel marked "38-55" and dated "40". Black matted finish receiver with cartridge slot, Lyman 48 receiver sight, factory drilled front bridge, clover leaf pre-war style tang, non-drilled rear bridge, solid handle bolt handle with bolt body electropencil serial numbered "31209", which is the same as the gun. Bolt features correct three-position pre-war style wing safety. Blued detachable floorplate and trigger guard. Walnut low comb checkered pistol grip stock with correct blued bow sling swivels and steel checkered Widow's Peak buttplate. CONDITION: 90% barrel blue with some light corner wear. 90% remaining original action finish with some light usage marks. 90% floorplate blue with some usage scratches. Wood has 90% original varnish with sharp checkering and some handling and usage dings. Good bore and mechanics. A hard rifle to find in honest condition. DLM
