Class II special order Winchester Model 70 carbine bolt action rifle made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1938. Blued 20" Winchester Proof Steel barrel stamped "30 U.S." on left side of barrel and "3040 (triangle) 1 37" on bottom. Barrel has hooded ramp front sight, 22G rear adjustable sight, and action drilled for Lyman 48. Blued action with clip slot, non-drilled rear bridge, and correct 2-hole front bridge. Pre-war style clover leaf tang with bolt having rifle serial number of "13823" electropenciled on bolt and pre-war style 3-position safety. Blued quick detachable floorplate and trigger guard. Walnut checkered low comb pistol grip stock with steel Widow's Peak checkered buttplate. CONDITION: 90% barrel blue with some edge wear. 90% action blue with bolt handle starting to go silver. 85% floorplate blue with handling and carry wear. Stock has 80% original varnish with hunting marks and dings. Good bore and mechanics. Rare gun. DLM
