The Liberator pistol was developed during World War II for clandestine operations, with the intention being to drop them into Nazi occupied areas, where they could be used by resistance fighters to kill an Axis soldier and acquire his weapons. The Liberator had only 27 parts, mostly stamped metal, and were dropped in boxes with 10 rounds of ammo, a wooden dowel rod to remove fired cartridges, and a cartoon strip that detailed operation for those who did not read English. This example is in the traditional configuration with stamped components and rough finish. Someone has electropencilled their social security number on the right side of the frame, a practice that was common at one point. CONDITION: Very good, with some normal roughness from the construction process. Spots of oxidation throughout, particularly on left side. Sheet metal bottom for retaining cartridges is missing. Top of the breech has some roughness from the manufacturing process. Mechanically fine, bore is very good. A desirable example of a true clandestine weapon. EMW
