An exceptional vintage and special game gun from 1887. This gun is featured in an article "Exceptional British Doubles" Volume Thirteen, Issue 4, 2002 issue of The Double Gun Journal. Built by famed W.C. Scott & Son of London England. This Premier model is quite special as the gun has many UK Patents as well as US Patents dating back to 1878. The lovely old gun with brown damascus steel 30" barrels with 2 - 7/8" chambers has a smooth damascus concave tapered game rib brass front bead sight reads "W & C. SCOTT & SON PATENT TRIPLEX LEVER GRIP" "THE PREMIER EXTRA SPECIAL" "10 Gt CASTLE STREET REGENT CIRCUS LONDON". The firm's famous logo of castle with flag flying above is situated on rib between the words "The Premier" and "Extra Special". The browned rib is built with the patent Triplex lever grip. The barrels are made with extractors and have barrel flats indicating "London Proof", "Not For Ball" and "12b" (for gauge). The bottoms of both barrels stamped with the guns serial number "42494". The browned damascus barrels and rib near breech are handsomely engraved with oak leaves. The gun's action is also riddled with patents from the pair of crystal cocking indicators to its block safety (intercepting sear). Watertable is marked with matching serial number, patent markings, two crown /V proof marks, U.S. patent marking, the flag on the castle tower in an oval logo. The aged faded case colored back action sidelock's is smartly built with gas escape ports, patent Block Safety Hammerless Intercepting Sear, Triplex Lever, blued auto-safe, gold washed double triggers. Full coverage oak leaf scroll with stippled ground, blued and gold pins adorn lock plates. Fences are engraved with floral scroll and carved with long leaves. The reddish-brown English walnut stock with nicely checkered pommel grip has a gold shield atop of its wrist and a serrated ebonite butt plate. The golden double triggers are protected by a blacked oak leaf engraved trigger guard which extends to its long oak engraved bottom strap which has the gun's serial number "42494". Trigger guard also with gold inlay "CLH". The splinter forend has matching checkering with engraved W.C. Scott & Son patent release. The exterior iron metal is all engraved and underside iron metal is faintly case colored. Gun is secured in oak and leather case with white paper trade label on inner lid, two-piece wood cleaning rod, round nickel oil bottle, nickel-plated snap caps, chamber brush, and turnscrew. Case with round brass disk that reads "CHRISTOPHER LETHBRIDGE BLACKHEATH" "1866". CONDITION: Very good. Barrels with nearly all of a nice re-brown. Action is tight. Triggers feel good. Stock has benefited from refurbishment. Forend with good checkering and release. Nice vintage side by side. Truly a very rare, possibly one of four known W.C. Scott Premier Extra Specials. A collector's dream! CP
