US M1841 "Mississippi Rifle" originally manufactured by Robbins and Lawrence in 1851 before undergoing alterations by Colt in 1861-1862. These alterations including the addition of a clamp bayonet lug, Colt model 1855 revolving carbine rear sight, and reaming the bore to .58 caliber and rerifling it. 33" round barrel in .58 caliber rifled with brass blade front sight and Colt 1855 rear sight. Barrel is marked "US" / "JCB" / "P". Breech date marking is not visible. "7232" conversion number can be found on clamp bayonet lug. Full length brass tip cupped ramrod. 1 piece plain walnut stock in 2 brass barrel band setup with brass trigger guard, US marked military buttplate, and storage compartment. "JCB" and "WAT" cartouches in their typically seen place on left of stock opposite lock and an additional cartouche near buttplate that appears to read "JFB". Complete with M1855 saber bayonet dated 1862 on blade and inspector marked "G" on brass handle. CONDITION: Very good, with iron barrel turned a brown-blue patina with age related pitting throughout. Barrel date on tang is not visible. Brass mountings are a pleasing mellow patina. Stock is excellent with cartouches sharp and other than handling marks, shows no major signs of distress. Action is tight with 2 crisp stops at full and half cock. Bore is dark with heavy abrasion from use with corrosive black powder with well defined rifling. Bayonet blade has turned a dove gray patina with brass handle turned a patina consistent with brass mountings on rifle. A nice condition US M1841 Mississippi rifle in a desirable configuration. TON
