Starr Model 1858 Double Action percussion revolver, serial number 9467 manufactured circa 1858-1860 with 3000 made. 6" round barrel in .44 caliber with dovetailed blade front sight. 1 piece plain walnut grips. According to the Springfield Research Service records, this revolver was issued to Private Thomas Lamonte (also Thos. Lamon in various records) who served in Company D of the 14th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry during the American Civil War. Lamonte mustered in November 23, 1862 and was discharged May 28, 1865. During this time, the 14th Pennsylvania saw action at Droop Mountain during Averell's Raid On the Virginia &Tennessee RR, Opequon (Third Winchester), Sheridan's Valley Campaign, Battle of New Market (Lynchburg Campaign), as well as the Battle of Williamsport during the Gettysburg Campaign. During their service history, the 14th Pennsylvania Regiment lost during service: 2 officers and 97 enlisted men killed and mortally wounded; 296 enlisted men by disease. Accompanying this revolver are photocopies from the Springfield Archives identifying serial number 9467 as being issued to Thomas Lamonte as well as the 14th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry's unit history. CONDITION: Good, with a protective layer of finish added and consistent moderate pitting throughout. Repair at bottom of right side of barrel with rammer latch assembly and rammer screw being modern replacements. Grips are good with large wood filler repairs on both front and back sides. Cylinder chambers have been bored out. Action needs attention as cylinder does not advance properly and trigger will not cause hammer to drop. Bore is dark with visible rifling. TON
