"WILLIAM PENN signs a treaty with the INDIANS, when he founded the PROVINCE of PENNSYLVANIA in NORTH AMERICA 1681" . Piece measures 29” x 24 1/2” frame dimensions. A 1 3/4" vintage mat surrounds the engraving and etching with watercolor on laid paper. This early, rare print, is engraved from the original painting by renowned artist Benjamin West. It depicts an idealized version of William Penn signing a treaty with the Indians. It was engraved by John Hall and published June 12th, in London by John Boydell. Print is presented in a vintage frame. This work was not examined out of the frame.
CONDITION: Several linear abrasions in top right corner. A 2” linear abrasion left center in tree foliage. Some loss to face on far right. Several abrasive lines in left bottom corner of print. A rare and attractive framed print of this historic event. DRG
