Remington Model 1903 "Red Star" bolt action rifle in .30-06. These "Red Star" rifles were made by Remington on the Rock Island Arsenal tooling, before being sent to England under the lend lease program. The red band was painted on the stock, with the addition to "300" or "30" added in black to designate that these rifles fired .30-06, not the standard British .303. About 120 of these rifles were imported back into the country in the mid 1950s. A handful were then sold off by the Red Star Museum in California, hence the nickname "Red Star". Made early 1942 with the original Remington production "2-42" dated barrel. All parts look to be "R" marked for Remington. Stock has a boxed "RLB" cartouche on the right side, behind a crossed cannons cartouche. Circled "P" firing proof on the bottom of the wrist. Original blade front sight with the rear adjustable to 2,700 meters. Original parkerized finish on the metal components, with the sight correctly blued. Smooth face trigger and milled trigger guard. Light oil finished straight grip stock with no finger grooves. Smooth metal butt place with trapdoor. CONDITION: Metal retains 90% of its original finish with general wear. Stock has a few dings, scratches and dents. Bore is clean with crisp 4 groove rifling. Muzzle gauges at a 1. Mechanically fine. JWA
