1889 vintage Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle, serial number 289621B. 24" octagon barrel chambered in .44 Winchester Centerfire (.44-40 WCF) with full-length magazine tube, standard rifle rear sight, and blade front. Left sideplate is marked "45 / Atlanta Police". Accompanying this Atlanta Police marked 1873 is a factory letter confirming configuration and that this gun was part of a shipment that occurred March 6, 1889 in which an estimated 125 rifles consecutively marked on the left sideplate in the same manner as this rifle were sent to the Atlanta Police Department between 1889-1890. 2-piece plain walnut stock and forearm complete with rifle forearm cap and crescent rifle buttplate with storage compartment inside (compartment is empty). CONDITION: Excellent for its age with a majority of the original bluing remaining on barrel and magazine tube with wear at high edges and patina forming and mixing with the blue throughout. Receiver is very good with a majority of the bright original bluing remaining with the balance turned a brown-blue patina. Stock and forearm are very good with handling marks throughout and wear related finish loss at high edges. Action is tight. Bore is clean with age-related frosting throughout with strong rifling remaining. An exceptional example of an extremely rare Winchester Model 1873 complete with factory letter. TON
