1883 vintage Colt Cavalry Single Action Army revolver, serial number 95069. 7 - 1/2" round barrel chambered in .45 Colt with single line barrel address, blade front sight, and V-frame notch rear. Blackpowder frame with low profile ejector rod head. Engraved with scroll on a punchdot background with more than 75% coverage. Date of engraving or name of engraver unknown. Silver-plated finish. 1-piece carved aftermarket ivory grips featuring a 7th Cavalry soldier galloping off into the clouds after being hit by an arrow over crossed swords with "7" / (swords) / "C" with rope and oak leaf borders on left grip panel. Right grip panel is carved with a ribbon inscribed to "WILLIAM CRANE" over a US Eagle holding a shield in his right foot and 5 arrows in his left with rope and oak leaf borders. Both grips have sunbursts on butt. Complete with factory letter confirming barrel length and serial number and that this revolver was originally blue finish with wood stocks and was shipped to the US Government Inspector at the Colt factory July 6, 1883 in a shipment of 100 guns. CONDITION: Very good with nearly all of the silver-plated finish remaining with scattered handling and storage marks. 1-piece grips are slightly proud to front and backstraps but are overall well fit and strong with no major signs of distress. Engraving and carving are crisp. Action needs attention as it advances properly when hammer is pulled rearward but will not stay in locked position. Bore is frosted with modest abrasion and visible rifling. TON
CORRECTION: Gun is nickel-plated, not silver-plated as previously stated.
