Scherping single shot stalking rifle. Made early 1900s in Germany. "HANOVER" marked on the left side of the barrel. "H. SCHERPING" marked on the right side of the barrel. German proofs on the right side of the frame. Some scroll engraving on the frame as well. Round barrel, turning to an octagon at the forearm. Full rib on top of the barrel with a blade front sight and a fixed u-notch rear. Tang safety and double a double set trigger. Barrel is blued, with the frame being still in the white. Oil finished wood stock and forearm. Checkering on the wrist and forearm, in addition to a capped pistol grip. Check rest on the left side. Sling swivels on the barrel and butt stock. Checkered horn butt plate. CONDITION: Metal retains 60% of its finishes with most areas forming a brown patina. Stock has handling marks and scratches. Forearm is missing a chunk at the stock line on the left side. There are a few chips out of the forearm as well. Bore is clean overall with strong rifling. Mechanically fine. JWA
