Richmond Type III percussion rifled musket with 40" round barrel in .58 caliber with reproduction M1855 2 leaf folding rear sight graduated to 500 yards and bayonet lug blade front sight. Barrel has a faint trace of a "V" / "P" / eagle proof on left barrel flat above woodline. Lock is a "low hump" and is marked "C.S." / "RICHMOND, VA" ahead of hammer and is dated "1863" behind hammer. Lock mortise in stock is in correct configuration, without the milled slot for a Maynard Tape priming device activating arm. Full length tulips head ramrod, possibly the original. 1 piece plain walnut stock in 3 barrel band configuration with brass nosecap and brass military buttplate. Comes with an original Confederate linen sling as well as an 1853 Enfield bayonet with original scabbard. CONDITION: Good, with virtually all of the original finishes turned to a brown patina with heavy use related abrasion near breech. Breechplug is a replacement. Stock is excellent as lightly cleaned with scattered handling marks throughout. Brass nosecap and buttplate have a light layer of verdigris throughout. Good mechanics. Bore is dark with visible 3 groove rifling. Sling is complete with no major repairs and leather overall pliable with cracking on surface. Linen has darkened due to age. Bayonet and scabbard are excellent overall. A handsome set. TON
