L.C. Smith side by side shotgun with Featherweight Ideal Grade frame married to a set of Specialty Grade blued Nitro proofed steel barrels and forearm. Featherweight frame was made in 1919 with serial number "7220E" while forearm and barrels are serial numbered "7797E" and marked on top with "Specialty" Grade markings and also was made in 1919. The barrels have matted rib with twin bead sights and ejectors. Records indicate only 226 twenty gauge Specialty Grades were made with 30" barrels. Case hardened sidelock featherweight frame with "Ideal" Grade floral engraving, double triggers and three-position safety. Gun has checkered walnut pistol grip stock with period "Jostam" rubber recoil pad and walnut checkered splinter style forearm with banjo-style roller release latch. Interesting gun with "E" suffix serial numbers and combination of different Grade parts. Could this gun been done at the factory or just in a local gunsmith's basement? CONDITION: 90% fading barrel blue with some light scratches. Barrels fit tight but lug is not flush with frame. Action is worn to a silvery patina. Wood has dark aged appearance with some scratches and dings and a possible old coat of varnish. Good bores and mechanics. Interesting gun. DLM
