Attractive panoramic chromolithograph of the United States Navy's Great White Fleet in San Francisco Bay. The Great White Fleet was a nickname for the group of United States Navy battleships that completed a journey around the globe from December 16, 1907, to February 22, 1909, by order of United States President Theodore Roosevelt. The fleet consisted of 16 battleships which were divided into 2 squadrons, all with their signature white painted hulls. The mission was to make friendly visits to numerous countries, while displaying new U.S. naval power to the world. This chromolithograph displays 20 ships, including the 16 battleships and 4 armored cruisers. All of the ships are identified by name on the bottom along with various points of interest in San Francisco Bay. The chromolithograph is labeled "United States Battleships Entering the Golden Gate San Francisco California" and is marked by the publishers in the left and right corners and is copyrighted "1908". CONDITION: The colors remain vibrant and there are scattered creases and light stains. There are a few small tears around the edges and one significant tear towards the center. Professionally framed and ready to hang. Overall good. JLD
