This is probably a SG&L No. 3 model, but it is only hallmarked "3" under the bayonet base. The frame is mint, and suspected German silver construction as there is no sign of brass showing anywhere. The globe has exceptional engraving, with "J. S. O'Shea" copper wheel engraved in fancy old English font inside an unusually ornate flower and fern cartouche. There is additional ornate bison engraving on the back, with "N.Y." in old English font below, an obvious reference to Buffalo, NY. J. S. O'Shea was employed as an Agent of the Erie Railroad, appointed in 1906 as the Agent at Buffalo. Photographs of the lantern and an excerpt from 1900 Railway Age are included with this sale. An outstanding lantern with great documented provenance.
Condition: (Mint).
Item Dimensions: 10" x 6" x 6".
