Unmarked but for a small "1791 (?, may be 1797). Brass octagonal to round barrel with pair of wedding rings at girdle, and 2 additional bands at the bell, which measures an unusually large approximate 2". Barrel retained by pins. Horn tipped ramrod retained by a single faceted ferrule that feeds into a single faceted mouth, both of which are decorated with rings. Brass trigger guard attached to an iron bottom strap with finger grooves. Brass buttplate. Buttstock is lightly fiddle figured. Stock has approximately half a dozen fine hairline cracks, with more towards the muzzle cap. Brass has a very pleasing deep mustard patina, with one spot on cleaned area of right side, approximately halfway down the round section. Lock has some minor fine pitting with a protective layer of lacquer. Brass buttplate has a small split at top that was period repaired with a screw. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is excellent. This is a very attractive example. EMW
