US M1861 Rifle Musket manufactured in Bridesburg, PA and dated 1862. 40" round barrel in .58 caliber rifled with 3 leaf rear sight and regulation blade front. Barrel is dated 1862 near breech and is marked on left barrel flat "V / OPs / (Eagle's head)". Lock is marked "U.S" / "BRIDESBURG" with US Armory Eagle ahead of hammer with "1862" behind hammer. 1 piece plain walnut stock in 3 barrel band musket setup with iron nosecap and US marked military buttplate. Each barrel band is marked with typically seen "U" marking with the middle band marked with an "X" underneath the "U" and the front 2 barrel bands are marked with an "O" on side opposite "U" marking. Stock is marked on left side opposite lock with faint "ESA" cartouche, "IN" and "O" consistent with barrel band markings. CONDITION: Very good, with barrel tuned mostly a freckled brown gray patina with markings sharp. Ramrod has been filed in to a conical shape. Stock is good with areas of heavy wear especially near rear barrel band and on left stock flat. Action is tight with 2 crisp stops at half and full cock. Bore is dark with visible rifling. TON
