Late 15th century or early 16th century German style halberd on a shortened haft. The blade measures 7" and the beak measures 3". The squared point measures approximately 9". The blade features four punched decorations and the base of the spike features a deeply struck armorer's mark. Similar armorer's marks appear on other German style halberds. The halberd has its original long iron straps with which secure the blade to the squared 67" haft with five hand forged iron nails on each side. The straps exhibit an inventory number which reads "P8". CONDITION: The blade, beak, and point exhibit delamination marks, some of which are more obvious than others. There is also scattered pitting and blemishes around the edges. The iron straps have weakened and warped over time and have broken in several areas. The straps have separated from the haft towards the top and are held in place by tape. The haft may have been added later and exhibits handling marks and several blemishes including dents and scratches. Overall good. PROVENANCE: Ex-Lattimer collection. JLD
