Circa 18th century early American goosewing axe on replaced haft. The blade measures approximately 12 - 5/8" and exhibits various interesting markings that have been encountered on similar early American axes. The markings are deeply struck and stand out on the blade. The haft is most likely a later replacement which is evident due to the inconsistent age. CONDITION: The axe head has acquired a pleasant chocolate patina and exhibits areas of heavy pitting with obvious delamination from hand forging. The edge remains somewhat sharp with various small dings. The haft exhibits handling wear and various cracks. The axe remains tightly secured to the haft. Overall good. JLD
