US M1842 percussion pistol manufactured Johnson with 8 - 1/2" round barrel with no rear sight and brass blade front. Barrel is marked "US / JH / P" on left side and is dated 1847 near breech. Lock is dated 1855. Captured ramrod with walnut stock and brass mountings. CONDITION: Excellent, as cleaned with light freckling throughout. Lock appears to be a replacement, possibly done during the period. "C" marking near bolster in lock mortise. Stock is excellent with minor handling marks throughout, heavy handling mark near front of lock, and cartouches absent. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is bright and smooth. Would make an excellent example in a type collection of US martial pistols. TON
