While aesthetically resembling one of the revolving turret rifles, this rifle is only a single shot. When the fore trigger is pulled back, it allows the barrel assembly and encapsulating ring to spin around the pressure fit central cylinder and turn to the side, exposing the chamber and allowing for a charge to be loaded in. A cap can then be put on the nipple and the barrel assembly rotated back and the rear trigger pulled, dropping the underhammer and detonating the charge. Sights are a simple blade front sight with a V-notch rear sight on an octagonal section of an otherwise round barrel. Barrel appears to be screwed in with a visible line approximately 1" from the outer cylinder. All furniture is iron and somewhat crudely manufactured and the stock bears a resemblance to Kentucky stocks, supporting the speculation that this is an American blacksmith build. CONDITION: Very good. Metal is essentially a smooth chocolate patina throughout, with some spots of pitting primarily near the nipple and chamber areas. Acton works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with a minimum of oxidation. Stock has numerous bumps and bruises and several cracks at extremities. Stock has some period repairs including copper plates at front and German silver pieces. This is a really interesting example of blacksmith ingenuity. EMW
