Colt Model 1917 double action revolver. Made 1918. "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" retained on the underside of the barrel. Army markings and serial number retained on the butt as well. Company address and patent dates on the top of the barrel. "COLT D.A. 45" marked on the left side of the barrel. Rampant Colt pony on the left side of the frame. Matching serial numbers on the frame and yolk. Round steel barrel with a blade front sight and u-notch rear. Metal components were arsenal parkerized at some point (possibly circa World War II). Correct walnut grips are numbered on the inside, but do not match the gun. CONDITION: Metal retains 90% of its arsenal re-applied arsenal finish with general wear and handling marks. Grips have handling marks and scratches. There is a chip out of the bottom front corner on the left panel. Bore is clean overall with excellent rifling. Tight hammer and cylinder. Sharp timing and lock up. Light drag lines on the cylinder. Mechanically fine. JWA
