Lot consists of: (A) Civil War Type I Model 1863 percussion rifle made by the Springfield Armory in 1863. Standard .58 caliber 40" barrel finished in the white with 1863 date and "V/P(Eagle head)" proofs at breech. Blade front sight which doubles as bayonet lug with 3 position rear sight. Barrel retained to full-length walnut military stock by 3 blued "U" marked bands. Stock also mounted with 2-piece iron trigger guard and blued "US" marked butt plate. Lock plate dated 1863 and marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" with federal eagle. Complete with tulip head ram rod. CONDITION: Good. Barrel and lock plate exhibit a brown-grey patina overall with some freckling especially around the lock and on buttplate. Bands still retrain significant portions of their bright blued finish with thinning and some spots of loss. Stock sanded with cartouches obscured and some scattered impressions. Good shootable bore with some oxidation spots. Crisp mechanics. Nipple replaced. (B) Model 1888 Trapdoor rifle produced by Springfield Armory. Standard 32 - 5/8" round barrel chambered in .45-70 and marked near breech with "V/P/(Eagle head)" proofs. Blade front sight and Buffington rear. Case hardened breech block stamped "US/MODEL/1884". Blued lock plate emblazoned with federal Eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". Full-length walnut stock with script "SWP/1891" inspector cartouche and circle "P" markings. Stock mounted with "US" marked trap buttplate, 1-piece trigger guard, 2 spring retained bands, and ramrod type bayonet. CONDITION: Very good. Portions of original blued finish retained with balance thinning to brown patina. Breech block retains traced of fading case colors with overall brown patina. Stock stark with impressions throughout. Very fine bright bore. Crisp mechanics. BAS
