Lot consist of: (A) Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor single shot rifle with bayonet. Made 1885-86. "V/P/(Eagles Head)" proofs on the barrel. "U.S."/MODEL/1884" marked breach block. Boxed "SWP/1885" cartouche on the left side of the stock. Circled "P" firing proof on the wrist. "U.S" marked butt plate. Blade front sight with Buffington style rear sight, marked "R". Factory blued finish. Stock has its original metal buttplate. Smooth metal buttplate. Ramrod is present Includes a "U.S." marked bayonet with metal scabbard and leather hanger. Bayonet is all blued, as is the scabbard. Leather hanger has its brass clip attached to it as well. CONDITION: Metal retains 80% of its original finish with general wear and some light brown patina starting to form. Wood has a few minor handling marks, dents, and scratches. Bore is very clean with strong rifling. Mechanically fine. Tight hammer. Metal finish on the bayonet is very good overall, with some wear to the scabbard. Tip is intact and the blade has not been sharpened. Leather hanger has heavy wear and is ripping on the seem. Brass is tarnished. (B) Springfield Model 1866 Second Allin Conversion single shot rifle with bayonet. Breach block is marked "1866/(Eagles head)". The lock has standard markings and is dated "1864". Boxed inspectors cartouche on the left side. Top of the butt is marked "US". Blade front sight with standard flip rear sight. Metal components look to be mostly in-the-white, with some brown patina starting to form. Lift gate is blued, so it may be a replacement. Stock has its original light oil finish. Ramrod is present. Includes an original .50 caliber, "US" marked spike bayonet. Bayonet was blued at some point. No scabbard. CONDITION: Metal has some brown patina starting to form over areas of in the white metal. There are some signs of visible cleaning. Wood has normal handling marks and scratches. Bore is very clean with strong rifling. Hammer is tight. Lift gate is loose, but still operable. Mechanically fine. Bayonet has finish wear and handling marks. JWA
