US M1822/28 flintlock musket made under contract by Daniel Nippes in Philadelphia, PA and dated 1839. 41 - 1/4" round barrel in .69 caliber smoothbore with no provision for rear sight and integral brass blade front sight on Charleville front barrel band. Barrel is marked with "P" proof on left side and is faintly marked "PHILA" on barrel tang where barrel date would normally be. In original flint. 1 piece walnut stock in 3 barrel band musket configuration with replacement iron buttplate dated 1827. Stock bears no cartouches and is marked "30" on left stock flat opposite lock. CONDITION: Very good as cleaned and polished long ago with "bright" iron assemblies turned a dove gray patina, more fitting for a gun this age. Front barrel band has been re fit to stock, with a second retaining hole for barrel band spring. Stock is excellent as sanded and restored with no major visible cracks. Action is tight, with 2 stops at full and half cock, but stops are soft rather than crisp. Bore is dark. TON
