1858 vintage Colt 3rd Model Dragoon percussion revolver, serial number 17691. 7 - 1/2" half octagon to round barrel in .44 caliber, with Colt New York barrel address, blade front sight, and flip up leaf rear sight. Matching serial numbers observed on barrel, wedge, cylinder arbor, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and butt. 1 piece plain walnut grips. Complete with a period stock with iron mountings. CONDITION: Very good, with visible amounts of silver plating remaining with the balance turned a cleaned gray patina with consistent freckling throughout. Barrel has appropriate gain twist rifling. Cylinder scene is light but about 75% visible. Grips are good as sanded and refinished. "U.S." marking on left side of frame appears to be added. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Period stock is very good, with iron mountings darkening due to age. Wood is shy to buttplate and has gaps around tang areas but is overall strong with no major signs of distress. There is a large weld on mounting assembly on the right side. TON
