Smith & Wesson Model .38/44 Heavy Duty double action revolver. Pre-Model 23 revolver made 1950-1966. "SMITH & WESSON" marked on the left side of the barrel. Standard company trade mark found on the right side of the frame, in addition to the company address. Barrel is marked "38 S&W SPECIAL CTG". Matching serials on the butt, cylinder and barrel. Matching assembly numbers on the frame and crane. Round, steel barrel with half moon front sight and a u-notch rear. Factory nickel finish. Case colored serrated trigger and spurred hammer. Checkered wood magna grips. Includes original gold colored flat board box, with a cleaning brush inside. CONDITION: Metal retains 90% or more of its original finish with some scratches and handling marks. Few freckles on the cylinder exterior. Grips are excellent with a few handling marks. Bore is shiny with crisp rifling. Tight hammer and cylinder. Good timing and lockup. Drag line on the cylinder. Mechanically fine. Box has edge wear and signs of tape residue on the top. JWA
