1871 vintage Winchester Model 1866 lever action rifle, serial number 79989. 24" octagon barrel with replaced blade front and Henry-style ladder rear sights. Full length magazine tube. Chambered in .44 Rimfire. Blue with brass frame, crescent style buttplate, and forearm cap. Case hardened hammer and loading lever. Plain straight grain walnut stock and forearm. Originally mounted with factory installed sling swivels, which have been removed. Engraved in the classic John Ulrich style featuring foliate scroll work with punch dot backgrounds. 4-panel scenes featuring a Bull Elk and running Rabbit on the frame left side and a European style Stag and sitting Rabbit on frame right side. Scrollwork on the buttplate and forearm cap. CONDITION: Very good overall. Brass has turned a pleasing medium mustard color patina. Engraving shows moderate wear. Barrel and magazine tube are mostly a grey-brown patina. Hammer and lever are mostly brown patina. Wood is sound, showing moderate wear. Action is a bit sticky. Bore is dark. Overall a most colorful special ordered Model 1866 rifle. MKS
